Candle Care
Although burning candles can provide you with a sense of relaxtion and comfort, their open flame can be hazardous when not monitored and cared for properly. We want to make sure that you burn your candles with care, so please follow the guidelines below.
Before Burning
Prior to burning your candle, it’s essential to trim your wick between 1/8 inches to 1/4 inches. This will help to prevent uneven burning, dripping, or flaring. It is also best to avoid drafts, vents, or air currents as this can cause uneven burning, soot, or excessive dripping. Plan to burn your candle for at least 3-4 hours at a time. This helps your candle burn evenly and avoids tunneling. Tunneling is when you burn a candle but the wax still stays on the sides of the candle vessel. You will notice that the wick sinks down the middle of your candle and all the unburned wax on the sides of the vessel gets wasted.
While Burning
When your candle is lit, never leave it unattended. Keep it out of reach from children and pets, and always make sure it’s on a non-flammable surface. It’s important to stop burning your candle when there is about 1/4 inch of wax left in the vessel. If at any point the flame appears too high or flickers repeatedly, extinguish your candle, let it cool, trim the wick, and check for unwanted drafts before relighting it.
While Extinguishing
When you’re ready to blow out your candle, if available, use a candle snuffer as it’s the safest way to prevent hot wax from splattering. Don’t ever use water to extinguish the flame as it can not only cause the hot wax to splatter, but also it could break the glass container. Before leaving the room, make sure the flame is completely out and there is no glow appearing around the wick. Lastly, don’t touch or move your candle until the wax has completely cooled and hardened.
